In order to provide the best experience for our students, our band needs lots of adult volunteer support. The following are areas where you may help. If you can help or have any questions, please contact the person listed below, or any booster club board member. Your help will be very appreciated, and as a small thank you we'll provide you a WHS band t-shirt!
Note: All volunteers must be registered with and approved by the OCPS ADDitions program at least once per year.
For two weeks in late July/ early August the students attend summer band camp. This camp prepares the students for the marching band season. We can use help any day or all two weeks. You can help for a couple hours or all day. Areas to serve include - checking students in, taking lunch orders, helping serve lunch, manning hydration centers, helping with equipment, etc. It's a great way to get your feet wet and make some new friends.
Have you had one of our awesome hamburgers? They are fresh, hot, and served with a non-squashed bun! At all home games the band boosters sell hamburgers, hot dogs, drinks, etc. We can use folks to - assist with grilling, pickup supplies, setup for concessions, work the concession stand, cleanup, etc. Contact our band booster president, Debbie Eubanks at .
Also please note that the band concession profits help fund the band program, helping keep our student assessments as low as possible. For more details please contact our band booster president, Debbie Eubanks at .
We need several chaperones for each home game, away game, and performance. Adult volunteers ride on the buses, assist with uniforms and equipment, keep students hydrated, etc.
The uniform room is critical to the marching season. We can use help handing out uniforms before games, keeping students hydrated during games, getting ready for half-time show - accessories (shakos/hats, gloves, shoes, etc.), and checking uniforms back in. Occasionally we need some mending or tailoring so if you have some talent with a needle and thread, come see us. We can also use help with concert attire during concert performances.
The band has lots of equipment, much of which is transported in our WHS Marching Band trailer. We can use help loading and arranging equipment in the trailer, unloading equipment, and moving equipment before and after halftime field shows. We can also use help putting chairs and field equipment away after home games.
The band holds several fundraising events each year. These fundraisers help students cover their assessments (fees). Typically we have at least a winter and spring campaign. See our calendar for all fundraiser dates. If you can assist with record keeping, product distribution, etc., we have a job for you. Also, if you are interested in joining our Fundraising Committee, please let us know. Contact Sue Henesy, our 1st V.P.
Look for emails requesting volunteers for particlar events and instructions for signing up via Charms. Note: If you are not receiving regular Charms emails, please contact Jeff Milligan, our Correspondence Secretary.
