The following is a list of musical ensembles offered by the band department as well as a brief description of each. These ensembles are made up of band members enrolled in band related classes such as Woodwinds, Brass, Percussion, and Guard.
The Beginning Band is Wekiva's newest band program, and is open to students who would like to get involved with the Band program by learning to play a musical instrument (Woodwind, Brass, and/or Percussion), as well as students who already know how to play, but would like to learn a new instrument. The Beginning Band performs at several school concerts year round.
The Concert Band is open to students with previous instruction in wind and percussion instruments. It consists of modern wind band instrumentation and provides instruction in common-practice period and twentieth century wind literature and transcriptions. The Concert Band is made up of students from the Woodwind, Brass, and Percussion classes that meet throughout the entire year. The Concert Band performs several concerts and festivals each year after marching season ends.
The marching band is a musical unit organized to provide education and entertainment for football games, pep rallies, band festivals, parades and concerts. This group is an important part of the instrumental music education program at Wekiva High School. The Marching Band is made up of students from the concert band classes that meet throughout the entire year. All Concert Band students must participate in Marching Band unless there are extenuating circumstances that have been cleared by the director.
The Jazz Band is open to students with previous instruction in wind and percussion instruments, by audition. Instruction in jazz idioms and literature of the twentieth century are studied. The Jazz Band is made up of students from the Woodwind, Brass, and Percussion classes that meet throughout the entire year. The Jazz Band performs several concerts and festivals each year.
The Chamber Ensembles are student lead musical ensembles made up of students enrolled in the Woodwind, Brass, and Percussion classes that meet throughout the entire year. Chamber Ensembles perform for a variety of events, including District and State Solo and Ensemble.
The Colorguard is an integral part of the Marching Band and performs with the band throughout the year. After the fall season ends, the Colorguard develops indoor routines to exhibit at festivals around the state. The Colorguard is made up of students who dance and perform with equipment such as flags, rifles, and sabres.
